- In Trinidad & Tobago nearly all used imports come from Japan, with some vehicles coming from Thailand and Singapore.
- Cars more than five years old are not permitted, and, presumably due to high traffic problems, no new importer dealerships are allowed.
- An import license is required from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Port of Spain, to facilitate importing the used vehicle of their choice and most imports are through dealerships.
- The imported vehicle must be right hand drive.
- The imported vehicle must not be fitted with a diesel engine.
- The applicant must advise the Ministry of Trade and Industry of their B.I.R. (Board of Inland Revenue) File number.
- For vehicles destined to be used as taxis, these units must be less than 3 years from the date of manufacture.
- Importing a used Maxi Taxi, though allowed, must also be less than five (4) years old from the date of manufacture, but require a Special Approval from the Transport Commissioner.
